PHP Commercial Painting today launched its new employee scheduling system within PaintWorks, adding tools designed to help the company select the right employees for each commercial painting project.
The scheduling system arrives four days after the initial release of PaintWorks, PHP’s custom-built customer relationship and business-management platform.
Instead of functioning as a basic calendar, the new system brings together information that previously depended heavily on the scheduling person’s memory and knowledge of individual employees.
Matching Employees With the Right Jobs
Commercial painting schedules involve more than determining who is available.
Employees may live in different parts of the Phoenix metropolitan area, have different transportation needs, hold different certifications and have experience with different projects. Certain jobs also have wage requirements that affect which employees can be assigned.
PaintWorks gives authorized scheduling personnel access to those factors while building the schedule.
The system can use the home address on an employee’s company record to help determine which available employees live closest to a specific job. That information can reduce unnecessary travel time and make it easier to build practical crews for jobs throughout the area.
The scheduling view can also indicate whether an employee has a vehicle or needs transportation, whether the employee holds a lift certification and whether that person has previously worked at the jobsite.
Prior job experience could be particularly valuable. An employee who had already worked at a location might be familiar with the project, the general contractor, site-access requirements or the work already completed.
Supporting Prevailing-Wage Compliance
Some commercial painting projects, including certain government and public works projects, require employees working on the site to receive a specified prevailing wage.
PHP’s previous scheduling system did not place the information needed to evaluate that requirement directly in the scheduling workflow. The person creating the schedule had to already know which employees met the wage requirements for a particular project.
PaintWorks allows authorized personnel to consider prevailing-wage eligibility while assigning employees, reducing reliance on memory and helping PHP avoid placing an ineligible employee on a regulated job.
The purpose is not to expose employee compensation broadly. It is to give the people responsible for scheduling the information needed to make a compliant assignment.
Connecting the Schedule With Verified Timekeeping
Today’s release also connects employee scheduling with location-verified clock-ins and clock-outs.
PaintWorks first needs to know which job an employee is scheduled to work. When the employee attempts to clock in or out through a phone, the system can request the device’s location and compare it with the assigned jobsite.
This allows PHP to confirm that the employee is within the approved distance of the correct project, rather than merely being near any company job stored in the system.
Connecting scheduling and timekeeping creates a clearer relationship between where an employee is expected to work and where the clock event occurs.
Making Scheduling Faster and More Informed
The new system was designed to improve several parts of the scheduling process at once.
It could make crew selection faster, reduce transportation problems, support prevailing-wage compliance, limit unnecessary travel and help PHP assign employees whose certifications and experience matched the needs of the job.
Most importantly, it places that information within the same system as PHP’s employees, customers, jobs, documents, project photographs and communication.
Today’s launch represents another step toward making PaintWorks a central operating system built around the practical requirements of commercial painting.
