PHP Commercial Painting today completed its first job billing through PaintWorks, bringing another part of the company’s operations into its custom-built system.
The August 12, 2026 milestone took approximately 10 minutes for the first billing, compared with about 40 minutes using the previous process. The new workflow brings together job information, change orders and automatically generated AIA billing documents.
Moving Beyond Paper Folders and Excel
Preparing a bill previously meant having paper job folders on the desk to understand what was happening on the project. AIA documents were then prepared manually using an Excel file.
PaintWorks changes that process by keeping the information needed for billing in the system. Change orders are already recorded with the job, so the person preparing the bill can work from those records without pulling together a paper folder first.
The system also generates the AIA billing documents as the billing is processed, replacing the manual spreadsheet-based preparation.
Select the Completed Work and Process the Bill
In the new workflow, the person preparing the bill selects the work completed and processes the billing. PaintWorks uses the information in the system to create the billing documents.
This keeps the billing process connected to the job and its change orders while reducing the steps required to prepare the paperwork.
A Faster First Billing
The first completed billing provides an initial result: approximately 30 minutes saved on a process that previously took about 40 minutes.
Developed by Chief Technology Officer Joshua Herbison, the billing functionality extends PaintWorks beyond managing job activity into preparing the documents needed to bill for completed work.
With today’s first use, PHP has a working billing process that draws on information already maintained in PaintWorks and reduces the manual preparation required for each bill.
